Seeds and 14% food inflation.

I picked up a great little book yesterday called "Your Garden" printed in 1949. ( folks back then did not have their kids wasting time on TV and the Computer so they had those things back then)

I read an article three days ago that stated that wholesale food prices had gone up over 14% in March of 2011. We all know Gold and especially SILVER has gone up dramatically . (83% for silver last year and over 63% this year so far). More and more people are finally starting to see that something is wrong and it is the Economy stupid.

The gardening book is very interesting in that it was produced by the "Agricultural Extension Service of the university of Tennessee and the U.S. Department of Agriculture" . I picked it up in a box lot of other books that I spent 5 FRNs on.

Included in this find was Dr. Vivian V Vetrano's GREAT book " the Health Seekers yearbook " (1990) , "Fruits of the Harvest, homemade Jams and Jellies" by Kraft 1992, Revolutionary Recipes, Colonial Food Lore and More by Patricia B Mitchell (1988), and a stapled booklet from the university of Tennessee called "Freezing Facts" on Freezing fruits to preserve them .. All for 5$FRNs.

Back to the Gardening book. I found this little book AFTER I had already planted my garden and found that I could have done things a little differently, however I did not blunder and there is still time to really do things right as the season progresses. What I thought was a really great find was the section on seed preservation and warnings. NOTE: with the price of food potentially becoming unaffordable without being a Government WIC or food stamp receiver, the idea of making sure you can grow your own food and save the seeds to do it again and again is becoming a real issue... Buying seeds that WILL not reproduce or eating from GMO sources is another article waiting to happen... but for now......

SEEDS:

If you wish to keep left over seeds for another year or two, you need to know how long they will remain good.

One or Two years- Corn, leek, onion, parsley, parsnip, rhubarb, salsify. Soybeans are not good for more than one year.

Three to Five years- Asparagus, beans, brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrot, cauliflower, celery, endive, kale, kohl-rabi-okra, English peas, pepper, radish, spinach, turnip, water melon.

More than five years- Beet, cucumber, eggplant, cantaloupe, mustard, tomato.

STORING SEEDS:

If you have leftover seed, write on the package the year when you bought or raised it. Otherwise you will forget how old it is.

Good places to store seeds are :

a. As Dry as possible

b. As cool as possible

c. Safe from rats, mice, squirrels, and, for beens and peas, the insects that work in the seeds.

Fruit jars and covered tin cans are good to protect seeds from animals and insects

SEEDS THAT CROSS

What Vegetables Cross in the Garden?

By crossing is meant that is you grow several kinds of one vegetable in the same garden the kinds may be mixed up in the seed.( Hybridized)

( Here is the interesting thing, today everything is hybridized, but read what they said back then in warning farmers)

1. Do not cross, or very little-

Beans, peas, okra, lettuce.

2. Some crossing, but not to much for home seed saving-

Eggplant, pepper, tomato, carrot, celery.

3. So easily mixed that different kinds close together will not remain pure-

Corn, cucumbers, melon, squash, pumpkins, mustard, brussels Sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, collard kale, kohl-rabi, spinach, onion, radish, beet, turnip.

OTHER THINGS YOU MAY WISH TO KNOW

Beet and chard will cross.

Cabbage, kale, Cauliflower, broccoli , brussels Sprouts, Kohl-rabi and closely related and will cross with another is in flower at the same time.

Chinese cabbage is a mustard and will cross with other mustards.

Corn-Mixes with field corn. Don't save seed produced on a hybrid.

Cucumbers and cantaloups will not cross with each other or with any other vine crop.

Irish Potatoes do not cross between rows

Summer squashes- Scallop, crookneck, zucchini, cross among themselves and with Connecticut Field pumpkin. They do not cross with winter squashes like Hubbard.

Sweet potatoes do not mix across the rows A vine of one kind may may make potatoes in another rows however.

Turnips grown for roots will cross with other turnips, including Seven Top, but not with rutabaga.

Watermelons are related to citrons and will cross with them. they will not cross with any other vine crop.

However with the understanding of certain hybridizing issues I think we should still be very careful sewing mingled or divers seeds as some are simply sterile and will not produce seed after their kind...

Biblical Proportions!

What we will see in Haiti, the voodoo Superstitious Island that registers and mostly Catholic is a horror! But it is nothing compared to what is going to happen in the future. Look at Haiti and what do you see, even before the destruction, a hell hole of dis pare and depravity. The people in great darkness and a land that would make Sodom look tame by comparison. Yet why do they do the same thing in American neighbourhoods when the chips are down? The answer is the same. Once a nation forgets God as Haiti did when it forsook the Bible for their Little lwa spirits. These little evil spirits purporting to be dead relatives not to mention the "spirits of the major forces of the universe--good, evil, reproduction, health, all aspects of daily life" control all aspects of their lives. The are possessed by them. They cause the world to be the way it is and develop a Fatalism in their lives that places them basically in the situation that they find themselves. If anything bad happens or anything good happens, it the the fault of the lwa spirit. What has been the fruit of this basic rejection of the Truth of the Gospel? Haiti. Forget the earthquake for a moment and you see a country that no sane person would ever want to live in other then to try to be a help to those who are set for destruction. All nations that forget God will be turned into Hell, and Haiti has been there for quite sometime. There have been great missionary efforts in the last thirty years or so but up until then haiti was officially 100% Catholic Yet they were almost all also practitioners of Voodoo.
I was reading a paper on this subject and the author stated it this way:

Well we had another great interview with the president of Gun owners of America, Christian and patriot , Larry Pratt. During this interview on liberty Works Radio Network brother Slattery just let him loose and Larry stole the show. Discussing the Gun Ban in D.C and its ramification, the selection of a possible new Supreme court justice and the poor interpretations of even Reagan Appointed judges when it comes to the the second amendment. When this interview was over a caller came on and attacked Larry's credibility with references to the Southern Poverty Law Center.. But you will need to listen to part tow for that fight. Jobless rate soars to 8.5 percent in March

'Employers laid off workers at a torrid pace in March, handing 663,000 people pink slips and driving the unemployment rate to 8.5 percent, the highest since late 1983, government data showed Friday.

Job losses have topped 600,000 for a record four straight months, despite a few hopeful signs recently that the recession — now the longest since World War II — could be easing.

The latest tally of job losses was slightly higher than the 654,000 that economists expected. The rise in the unemployment rate matched expectations.

And so for some reason he economy is being described by the experts as "On the rebound" and the FED Chairmen is being praised with this: Bernanke Easing Mortgage Rates for Consumer-Driven Rebound... " So we got into this problem when the credit market popped.. they say... when the the real reason is the money system that creats credit and calls it money, Debt and calls it wealth over inflating the prices of homes through money expansion and credit until the obvious happened: people realized that homes are not worth what the market says and so the banks would not loan more equity money to the home owner to shop with. The entire boom was nothing more that a grand expansion of DEBT hoping that homes would go up in apparent value for ever. The Tax people loved it and the socialists loved it because they could raise taxes without raising millage rates simply by basing their taxes on the make believe mark to myt prices on the homes. The real estate agencies loved it because they are paid on commissions and the more the better, so they could not be honest about real value even if they did know. The property appraisers would not be honest because how many folks would be calling them if every time they came out the told you your house was worth less and less. Developers? LOL not an honest bone in their bodies and they knew... The Bankers? ROFLOL as if they cared. Remember they do not even know what a dollar is, add to this that their commissions on loans and points are based on people flipping their homes and properties. The more sales the more commissions and the more sales the more debt.. and remember DEBT, to them is wealth and a hole is a mountain. That is why "Bloomberg news" can say "Ben Bernanke is delivering what he promised five months ago, record- low mortgage rates and a refinancing boom that’s putting cash in consumers’ pockets." But is that TRUE?
Question: If you borrow more money from your home have you created any new wealth, or have you established a DEBT that must be repaid someday? Question: If you buy something with the money that is consumable, and are required to pay the so called money back with iterest, have you actually paid way to much for what ever it is you bought? It reminds me of the fellow that I saw years ago buying his family a meal at McDonalds, he spent about 30 dollars and whipped out a debit card to pay for it. The Money on the Debt card was money that was placed there via a refinance on his home. Eventually he lost the home and he is still paying for the meal at McDonalds and that was eaten year ago. Did he actually BUY anything? IN another case I saw a young husband do the same thing at another restaurant, Pay with a CREDIT card this time. The credit card was one of those Orhcard Bank high interest cards. They give you like 300 dollars in credit but they charge you 150 dollars to do it. At any rate he bought his meal and exchanged his credit card for it. He is still paying for it and at a rate of over 20% interest. He expanded the economy, just like the McDonalds shopper did, by adding to the over all debt that eventually combined to unimaginable proportions to collapse the WORLD economy. So what is the FEDS solution to the problem they and their clones created? "Lets start over and do exactly the same thing we did before....." Sort of like being trapped on an amusement park thrill ride that for some reason can't be turned off...

OK, As if having Brother Larry Pratt of Gun Owners of America and Pastor John Weaver of Freedom ministries were not enough of a blessing, Remember Doctor Scott Johnson will be with us as well and will be set up with a table. Mr. John Conway, the author of the citizens handbook will also be with us and be available for a book signing and to answer any questions.

Looking for the opportunity to help LOCAL people in this time of trouble and needing to possibly provide something to eat, I contact a dear friend who has a Boars Head hot dog/sausage cart, she will be setting up for your hot dog eating pleasure. Be a blessing to her as well. She will have soda and water and all the fixings, I am not sure of her prices on the top of my head but they are reasonable and her product is the best in Marion County IMHO. I also spoke to the Air soft Salesman at the flea market who said he was going to send a rep. with some of his more realistic weapons, weight and feel without the high cost or the safety problems involves with shooting real 7.62X39 rounds at one another.....

At least 1 bullion man will be with us with Silver and Gold available.

Did I mention that Mike, a new attendee of the meetings is also a custom leather worker whos speciality is creating holsters for Concealed Carry?

OH I went over Brett's house the other day and his OIL LAMP creations are coming along fine and are absolutely beautiful as well as functional. He should have some for the meeting..

The back of the building where we usually have the meeting will be available for all those who have Stuff.... they want to trade and barter or sell. Again time is short and some tables are already spoken for. We have contacted all of the local pawn/gun shops, save a few that we will get to Monday and many have said they plan to attend. We have handed out well over 1000 fliers and I know many of you have done a great job promoting this event.

Watching a Dead Cat Bounce

Every once in a while you see something happening in the news that just is simply amazing. Watching a dead economy "come Alive" and "Rebound" as news people call it when what is actually happening is akin to watching a dead cat bounce. Sure there is movement in an upward way, but what next? Have you ever watched a ball bounce down a flight of stairs? When I was a kid we used to drop a ball down large flights of stairs the first few bounces were short and not to high, but as the ball picked up momentum steps were skipped and bounces were bigger, but never to much higher and always after ever bounce there was a bigger fall. Is this where the economy is headed now? It sure looks that way. We got to this position because of our excessive debts and over spending and mystery accounting and now we owe more than ever , we spend more than ever, and more money is simply vanishing on mystery projects and so called infrastructure then ever. More people than ever will be living with their hand out to government, producing nothing, consuming everything. Problem: Dead cats bounce but they do not move and a ball can't bounce upstairs.

The Plan for the Future and an Overview of Monday March 2nd's Meeting

We had another great meeting this past week with an equally good turnout.


After Brother Mike opened the meeting up with a prayer, he shared with us his goal of putting a “best practices” standard in place for developing groups like ours. In the role of being a model or mentor group, the research and foundational work developed by the Belleview meetings will be used to help out others that Mike mentioned. Some were as far north as Atlanta and further north into Philadelphia.
